Burnley Butty Shop
Alfie’s in Bull Street was gutted by the late night blaze in February, which started in the roof space of the terraced row and also affected Jazz Man Grooves, Holt and Longworth Solicitors and Bar Boogie.
The entire block suffered damage costing in the region of £100,000 with Alfie’s needing a new roof, a complete rebuild of the upstairs and a new door.
Owner Paul Johnson, who turned 40 the day after the fire, said it had been a difficult few months but he was now looking forward to getting back behind the counter again.
“I didn’t think it would take this long,” he said. “Obviously it’s worrying but I think I had a good name. A lot of people have been coming and asking me when I was going to be opening up again, so that’s good.”
Paul opened the shop in May 2009, naming it after his son Alfie, who was one at the time. He said he just hoped everything would now go back to the way it was.
“A lot of customers used to come in and just say ‘usual please’. I want to get everything back to exactly how it was then, especially on the food side. I want people to come and feel like it’s never been away.
“It’s going to be a lot of hard work but I can’t wait to get back into it.”
